The initial assignments were engaging, and the core technology is interesting.

The position was offered with assurances of job security and discussions around long-term growth, which were major factors in my decision to accept the offer and move my life to California. Unfortunately, these assurances did not materialize. I expedited my cross-state move in under a month to be on-site and contribute quickly, providing regular updates on my progress. At no point during my relocation (the majority of relocation expenses were sponsored by them, so credit where it's due) was any indication given that my role was at risk or that the company was undergoing changes that could affect my position. The layoff occurred abruptly on my first day in the office after relocation, just after I had completed a couple of field deployments across the country for the company. It happened on my first scheduled performance review at the end of 30 days. Based on the 3-month plan we had discussed, I was operating under the impression that I was on the right track and meeting all expectations. This should not be viewed as a negative post for its own sake. This reflects my personal experience, and yours may be completely different. So go ahead and take your chance if you feel inspired to do so. I did, and I have no regrets. I love the place I am in right now and feel there is a plethora of products in my field I can be a part of. TL;DR: 1. Misleading Hiring Process: Assurances of long-term stability did not match the reality of the situation. 2. Lack of Transparency: No communication about my role being at risk, even as I was in the middle of a cross-state move. 3. Abrupt & Unexpected Termination: Position was eliminated shortly after I relocated and completed project work, with no prior warning or performance feedback.
