Vantaggi

I like that I can work from home, virtually from my own office. The on-the-job training is excellent; I improved greatly as an editor. When the money is good, it's great.

Svantaggi

The content media coordinators do not answer the vendors' emails, which can be frustrating. CS does not pay on time, though it has the money upfront from the customers. It says it processes invoices on the due date and pays a week to two weeks later. This doesn't happen. Oftentimes, the invoice is processed a few weeks later and the vendor is paid a week to a month after that. Some months, the work flow is great; others it's nonexistent. The pay is based on the manuscript's word count, instead of the word count *and* the condition of the manuscript. For example, some manuscripts are in great condition, while others are English-as-a-second-language messes. It's the same price for both, if the word counts are the same. Thus, you could be making $5 per hour or $35 per hour, based on the manuscript's condition. My advice to new freelance editors: I've seen work dry up in an instant at many of these editing companies, so beware when signing a contract. Remember you're an independent contractor, so you have to pay your own taxes; save to do so.

Vantaggi

You get 40 hours of pto and 40 hours of UPT if you're paid hourly (which I was) basic account coordinator role starts off around $15.00 an hour. You can do OT. You also get stock vestments every year and at 4 years you cash in. Depending on the stock value at the time it could be upwards of $40k or more.

Svantaggi

The members or clients they serve are horrible. They are uneducated and require a lot of hand holding and yell often. They actually have every right to yell because we lie to them a lot. We lie about deadlines or when we'll have stuff back but we never do. People will call every day multiple times a day and feel as if they are some sort of rock star writers. Some are grateful but most are horribly rude. I had an escalation every single day. The service offered was too complicated and too changing for the customers. The customers took it out on you and had no clue what they were doing. Management straight up said to me, "They didn't care how hard my job was." It's hard because they're making it hard and they could do so many things to make it better.
