Vantaggi
Casual office environment, beer and snacks. Smart people on the technical teams. Fast friendships form, and happy hours were frequent. There used to be other perks such as golf outings, summer weekend trips & a bowling team. This is a good place for someone on a lower level team or sales looking to make quick money. No standards for raises so you can negotiate.
Svantaggi
Leadership and management is not technology driven. Great tech remains outdated due to changing priorities, ego trips by managers, and a lack of vision by product management. Any capable managers are inevitably pushed out. Ideas for changing destructive patterns aren't respected, you'll end up in a long meeting with heads spinning and egos flying instead of having professional planning and dialog. The engineers are extremely talented and dedicated to the products, but many of the product decisions are driven by sales (or potential deals), not by the technology.
If you don't drink alcohol this may be an uncomfortable place to work. There is also shocking levels of misogyny. There is no HR and no performance review process. You have to ask for reviews and potentially wait months to get your promised promotion. In the pros, I mention being able to negotiate, but usually that involves having another offer on the table. The company is eager to promote without compensation. Even if you are promoted to a mid-management position, you won't be given the autonomy or respect to make positive changes. Employees form friendships because they can all agree on what to complain about.
