This is a startup and the line or next step is not always a clear path. You can get caught up in the inertia of growth only to realize you do not have enough stability to handle it all. It was difficult that the work flow was not always stable and when it was low we were micromanaged and constantly questioned on what was being done or not done. When it got overwhelmingly busy there was not enough help or time in a day to finish the work. Meetings are constant so you are trying to fit everyday tasks in here and there, feeling like something is always missing. There is no regular work day, you are told your hours and advised to follow them but then expected to answer messages, calls and texts at all hours of the day and night. Meetings start at 4:45 only to last late into the evening. There is a false sense of Salaried Exempt and Non Exempt statuses. Some team members make their work schedule and have personal time during the day, but then expect an employee who has worked their full 8 or 9 hour day to work at random hours at their request. There is no respect for personal time of lower employees. It is a start up, something foreign to a lot of people, especially anyone older than 35 in our region of the country, and it's a whole different culture. You have to be creative, have to be loud, you have to have thick skin. If you are not management or a VP, you have to be ready to change roles/duties at the drop of a hat, then be expected to know exactly what and how to do what's next. There is no clear line of expectation on how to do the work just the end result and that changes with every client. There is no feeling of protection or loyalty. You are thrown under the bus no matter how wrong the client might be. No boundaries are set so lower staff never knows when to draw the line with a client, they'll work you to death and then turn around and complain in an instant and management does not investigate, of converse to see both sides of the story.
