They're a tech company. They deliver a product and treat the people who do that work, the call agents, the worst. They don't offer full time, benefits, or anything else that an employee can actually use. The CEO, Ted, is a bro and a bully around the office, claims to be approachable, but makes sexist and transphobic comments and doesn't accept honest feedback, even harasses employees who don't laugh at his "jokes." For example, when I took the time to explain a joke he had made and what was wrong with it, his response was tone deaf and insulting. Managers are mostly there as tokens, they're ineffective. The company conducts itself like a corporation, while remaining small enough to take advantage of exploitative labor laws. The office is open air, and really noisy, making it difficult to do phone work. They don't make expectations clear, they talk about "performance" in vague, unmeasurable terms and terminate without warning or discussion. Feedback is virtually nonexistent and when it does come it is unhelpful and vague. For example, the one and only discussion I ever had with a manager about performance was about whether or not I was "happy" and some guilt tripping about things I was not aware were part of the job description. They prey on recent grads, hiring them for the lowest-level positions and crack down on any innovations or ideas they may have.

We have a part-time staff doing phone transcription work. As we grew, we didn't pay enough attention to that team. The culture, training and support of that group was not up to our standards. We are committed to doing better and are changing those things now. Unfortunately we had to terminate an employee as part of those changes. As for people not laughing at my jokes (I'm the CEO), I'm used to that by now. :)
