There are many good, dedicated people that work for the City. They truly believe in public service, and want to make things better for the citizens of Dallas. The defined benefit! pension is worth putting up with many things. Opportunities exist for lower level staff to gain experience working on many different projects, and to move and grow

Management. From the top down, the management culture is toxic. The entire goal of management is to keep the Council members happy, which is directly opposed to making the City better, as Council is simply looking for what benefits them. No one in management will risk ANYTHING, as this might endanger their pension. Worthless, the lot of them. Also, steer clear of any IT jobs here. That department is the worst, with high turnover, management that doesn't have any vision or know how to actually implement IT infrastructure, and too few staff to actually accomplish the work. Pay is low compared with private sector, and benefits are not very good.
