Vantaggi
The benefits are pretty good. They're a big company so they offer quite a range of benefits, and their healthcare and dental are pretty good.
Svantaggi
Low pay, terrible and passive aggressive management, no advancement potential. In 10 months of working for Dell I never once had any conversation whatsoever with my manager. I only interacted with the floor supervisors. There was no communication of expected performance, no meaningful metrics or goals other than "do a good job". There were written performance reviews we were made to sign off on that had generic copy pasted language in them, never any discussion of these. Account is majorly understaffed, what should be 30 people is only around 20. Management has been talking about "the light at the end of the tunnel" since I started 10 months ago. Management is mainly absent, or passive/aggressive and have no idea how to manage their employees. Turnover is over 50% annually. Everyone working here is applying for other jobs and counting the days until they can leave. When employees raise issues and ask for help they are either ignored, or told to refer to incomplete documentation. If they make a mistake management will throw them under the bus. Rather than honestly addressing workflow errors or problems with the system, management ignores feedback and refuses to engage with employees or acknowledge any problems. Don't explain why you're taking time off, it might be denied. Although they will still ask why if you don't tell them. Also it might be denied anyway. Good luck calling in sick, they will try to guilt trip you into coming in. Be prepared to work overtime and weekends with no notice, but if you need an appointment you better put it in 2 weeks in advance. Oh and raises? Forget about it, not going to happen. This was only what I observed at my location. But since Dell draws some managers from the few survivors on this account it doesn't bode well for the rest of their company. I'd look elsewhere if you have options.
