Anti bullying charity working in the UK and US.

Svantaggi

I wish I had something good to say about working for Ditch The Label, a charity that is supposedly helping thousands of people. However, working for Ditch The Label was a nightmare. Liam, the company’s CEO, is rude to his employees, talks down to them and questions their professional capacity in front of everyone to embarrass them. The situation is so bad that pretty much the entire team has left and only new people remain. He has accused people of stealing things and a few people have left the office crying and never came back. This because of his insults and attacks. It is no joke. Someone working at Ditch suffered so much from pressure and stress that was put on medical leave for a month, and never came back to work there. Terrible. I don’t recommend working in this place. Also, the hours are extra long - from 9:30 hrs to 18:30 hrs - and you only get a 30 mins break. Meanwhile the company’s CEO goes to get haircuts and his eyebrows done during working hours (and then comes back to the office and openly talks about it) It is as ridiculous as that. There is no HR Department, so no one to talk to. Do not work there! You will regret it.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to review your experiences of Ditch the Label. Our organisation is built on values of respect, communication and team spirit and so your comments came as a shock to us. Following your posting, I was placed on voluntary leave and the board of trustees independently investigated the serious accusations detailed in your review. As part of this process, they interviewed all colleagues, reviewed office CCTV footage and also examined all employee appraisals and reviewed Ditch the Label’s policies. In addition, the chair of trustees contacted all former employees and invited them to confidentially raise any concerns directly. Following this process, there was no evidence to correspond with the claims posted in this, or subsequent reviews. We take the employee experience at Ditch the Label incredibly seriously and are immensely proud of the open and supportive culture that we have built at Ditch the Label. Each colleague has unlimited access to external HR, direct access to our trustees and bi-annual appraisals. This also includes professional clinical supervision for support roles. Our standard office hours are 09:00-17:30. We actively encourage team members to take as many daily breaks as they would like to. We believe in promoting a healthy work-life balance, which is why we encourage people to take time off for their physical and mental health, we offer lie-in days, flexible working and early finishes every Friday. Not to mention our bi-monthly team tournaments, daily briefing sessions and monthly socials. This is all in addition to 28+ days of fully paid holiday each year. The organisation you have described in your reviews really does not reflect the culture or experience of working at Ditch the Label. Should you wish to discuss this further or raise a genuine grievance, please either contact me directly or the chair of our trustees who will be more than happy to support you through the process. With best wishes, Dr. Liam Hackett Founder and CEO

Wonderful support mentor team. The role itself was meaningful and rewarding.

Svantaggi

My experience working for Ditch the Label have been deeply upsetting and disappointing. Over several years, I was repeatedly encouraged to believe I would be fairly considered for development opportunities and leadership roles, only for opportunities to be withdrawn, reassigned, or filled without a transparent interview process. This created a culture where hard work and loyalty did not feel genuinely recognised. Communication from leadership often felt unclear, particularly around progression, staffing decisions and pay. Towards the end I was carrying responsibilities beyond my role without appropriate recognition or compensation - my whole department had to take a 20% paycut despite being on the lowest paygrade; and juggling four different roles towards the end. And then all but one of us were made redundant due to "lack of funding". Less then ten days following our departure, you promote a colleague and also announce a new 40K role... Disgusting. My final experience with the organisation was especially upsetting. After three years in the role, my goodbye messages to community members were heavily edited and monitored during my final shift, which made an already emotional departure feel impersonal and lacking in trust. I left feeling undervalued despite years of commitment to the organisation and its members.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am sorry to hear that your time at Ditch the Label ended in a way that felt upsetting and recognise that redundancy is always a difficult experience, particularly for someone who cared deeply about the young people we support. On the question of redundancy, the decision to make these roles redundant was a difficult one, based on a need to ensure that Ditch the Label is able to meet the needs of the young people we support most effectively. I understand that the timing of subsequent organisational announcements felt painful. The new role focused on delivery of a restricted grant, requiring professional expertise and qualifications making redeployment impossible. Regarding the monitoring of goodbye messages during your final shift, the safeguarding of the young people in our community is our absolute priority. We must be mindful of professional boundaries with young people and there are circumstances in which we are required to apply additional oversight to communications with the young people we support. I genuinely wish you well and hope that you are able to look back on the positive difference you made to many young people during your time with us. If I can support you further with your next steps please do get in touch.

The culture is collaborative and inclusive, everyone has a voice, and you can see the difference the work makes in young people's lives. Management and colleagues are fair and supportive, they invest in your development, give you opportunities to grow, and care about employee wellbeing.
