Duke was a terrific company to work at for nearly 10 years. I learned and worked with some of the smartest individuals I have ever met and took those skills with me during my transition and into my current role. Definitely would go back in the future if an opportunity presented itself and it made financial sense.

It’s super busy as are most jobs these days. The constant reorgs and uncertainty can bring the worst out of decent people. People who may just be worried about their financial position and their job due to reorgs and layoffs. No one knows exactly what is going on during these times of uncertainty and those who do keep it close to the fold. I only had a few managers that provided adequate transparency during these times. While I was a leader I spent much of my time being transparent and not worrying about the consequences, as for me - being honest and upfront is a skill I never plan on leaving at home while at work.

Strong job stability in a regulated utility environment, along with competitive pay and solid benefits package. My immediate team is genuinely supportive and collaborative — we work well together and have each other's backs. The work itself offers a sense of purpose given the essential nature of the industry.

Upper management operates with limited transparency and decisions flow strictly top-down, with little visibility into the reasoning behind strategic choices. The compensation structure does not differentiate for high performers — annual raises tend to land at or below inflation. Work groups across the department are heavily siloed, which limits cross-functional collaboration and slows knowledge sharing and adds frustration.
