Vantaggi
Great Co-workers, Understanding and supportive supervisors. Great Pay Scale, Impressive Training. Union environment (can also be a con).
Svantaggi
-Without exception, you always get hired as part timer. No minimum hours guarantee unless signed a crew. -Dismal work/life balance- always. -Split shifts are very hard to acclimate to. (8 or more hours between pieces are common - no compensation for the wait period on splits) -Very seniority based advancement which is perpetually discouraging. (Do not overlook consideration of this if advancement is your goal). If you are thinking about starting as a driver with aspirations of advancing internally - look elsewhere. Advancement is nearly non-existent and while job competitions are technically open to everyone, part timers are not considered for full time non-revenue positions. -Stressful work conditions and demanding customers. -Considerable time to reach full time status (could be several years). -Weather is a constant consideration. -Pay premiums for part timers in lieu of benefits. -Part timers can only ever receive a maximum of 3 vacation weeks and generally only one week can be split into single vacation days. -Feast or famine for overtime / extra work. -Often minimal rest periods with little effort from management to improve that.
