Vantaggi
ELEXON is an extremely supportive and collaborative working environment, with friendly and helpful colleagues always willing to lend a hand, respond to questions, and to go the extra mile when needed. I found staff to be approachable, personable and friendly, which made for a productive and motivating atmosphere. My line manager was flexible, especially when making requests to work from home, and I had an extremely supportive manager and team, who were a joy to work with. The Executive team are accessible, visible and approachable, and generally worked hard to create a good working culture. ELEXON offers a good benefits package, which compared to other organisations I've worked at, is extremely generous. There is a good work-life balance, salary, and real efforts are made with the induction process and welcoming new starters to the organisation. There are lots of bright people working there, with a high level of technical knowledge, most of which people are willing to share, which helps people across the organisation learn about the technical aspects of the industry, as well as helping colleagues in their daily work.
Svantaggi
There has been a high staff turnover, and there have been issues with career progression, however I appreciate that is the nature of corporate hierarchy - unless there is a shift in the senior management or team leads, there is limited opportunity to progress, but this is true of many companies. Due to the nature of the company, and working within the remit and limitations of the BSC, it can be very risk averse and bureaucratic. The subject matter can also be quite dry, which can mean that it is difficult to be energised and motivated by some of the work undertaken. There can be interesting projects to get involved in, but often this is limited to those able to get involved due to the expertise required. There has been a lot of work done to break down the silo mentality between departments, but there can be limited inter-departmental communication. With the introduction of Yammer, digital screens, and opportunities for knowledge sharing through Learn & Lunches, hopefully this will help to address some of these concerns.
