- The free lunch, but not really because its really just a method to make you feel better about the subpar pay (it amounts to about 2k a year, which they get to just write off while they try to guilt you about it) - Some of the people in the company are nice because of the atmosphere they attempt to develop, but this actually also ends up more of a con than a pro.

-Nepotism rules this company. If you take a job here you will find out that everyone knows everyone from somewhere previously in the company. This is significantly more of a problem because people get positions they do not have the expertise for requiring others to pick up the slack which is EXTREMELY common. - Code base was a complete mess and very difficult to deal with and the for the most part just throw bandaids everywhere to try to fix it. Thats why they call themselves the data plumbers, LOTS of bad quality duct tape due to the fact they try to outsource everything, which you'd hope wouldnt happen in a MEDICAL INFORMATION company, but here we are. - People lie. I had no issues with my job until someone decided they didnt like me. Literally made up meetings that didnt happen in an effort to remove me. - If you want to become a better developer this is not the place. There are a myriad of other places that will pay you more to actually learn decent skills, not just become a cog in their asinine system. If you're reading this, you can do better. - This didnt happen to me personally, but I know of a number of employees that are essentially trapped to the company due to the fact they hold getting them HB-1 Status over their heads. They want to take ridiculous amounts of time to go through the process while other companies will start with it and not use it as a bargaining chip. - One of the CEOS is nice, but the other one is a bully. Uses his status to pressure others into situations. Once talked about some of my own very personal matters around others that had no right to know about it. I was shocked.

I’ve been at ELLKAY long enough to have experienced both the “before” and the current direction, and the difference over the past year has been pretty noticeable. Since the new C-suite came in, there’s been a real shift in how the company operates. Communication is much clearer across the board, especially when it comes to priorities and timelines. Project direction changes still happen (as they do anywhere), but they’re actually communicated early and consistently, so you’re not scrambling after hours trying to catch up. One thing I genuinely appreciate is the focus on growth. Leadership and management actively encourage you to keep learning. There’s also been a push to modernize tools and workflows, which has made a big difference. For example, moving from older tools like Joomla and Adobe XD to more current ones like Webflow and Figma, and embracing AI where it makes sense. Benefits have also seen some updates. There’s been an increase in observed U.S. federal holidays, health plan incentives, and the 401k options are flexible (Roth + Traditional).

Like any growing company, there are still occasional shifts in direction (but at least they’re communicated now).
