EZCORP has about a dozen names it does business as. EZPAWN, CashConverters, PawnPlus, and the list goes on. The management team from the CEO down to the store managers are terrible. Laziness and a lack of understanding the business sums it up. The pay and workload is terrible. Good employees are fired on a regular basis. Every year they fire people after the holiday rush is over. It is near impossible to get promoted above store manager. Almost all of the district managers and above are hired from other companies. Favoritism is the number one way to get promoted. Favoritism is much more likely to get you promoted than performance. Don't believe any promises of promotions or pay raises. The management is keen on making false promises to keep employees around. The scheduling and work/life balance is pretty bad. Usually you just know your schedule for the week a couple of days in advance. Working weekends is mandatory. Difficult to get vacation approvals and there are a lot of vacation blackout dates. Many open to close shifts, and you only get a 30 minute break at best. The managers are very petty, and they promote lying and swindling customers. The store managers, district manager, regional managers, and above are gossip spreaders. Nothing is personal or private with this company. We were instructed to lie to customers all the time. We would promise customers we would hold their loan to a certain date, but then managers would put it out for sale before then. We were instructed to add on service plans without telling customers. If a customer caught it right then we would say it was an accident and then take the protection plan back off. But if they left store and came back to point out the error we were instructed to tell them there was nothing that could be done about it. We were told to lie about the condition of an item or misrepresent it just to get it out the door. The most a customer ever had for a return policy was 24 hours, and even then we didn't always honor it. Or if we did do a return sometimes we would just give you a store credit and not a refund. HR does not stand behind the employees. Reports made to the anonymous report line were not anonymous. All of the information that was supposed to be anonymous would be given to the managers. Employees have been fired for making reports to the anonymous report line or to HR. Something for prospective employees to consider is working in these stores is dangerous. They are targets for thefts and robberies. Customers often come in high or intoxicated. Customers often get irate when we give them bad news about their items. Being threatened is not uncommon. The company does not do enough to protect its employee's safety. Look up the lawsuits this company has lost because of illegal practices. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered EZCORP to pay $10 million for illegal debt collection tactics. EZCORP is also being sued by its shareholders for falsifying financial statements.
