Edelman manages its external image smartly through its media connections and PR know how. Unfortunaetly it doesn't apply the same energy and creativity to cultivating its staff and workplace. At one time it was an organization where you'd fine real stability and consistency in the ranks but turnover and politics have become negative forces and the culture has suffered. The agency structure has a large base of junior staff managed by a lean management layer so personal attention and career development is sporadic. In contrast to the large public networks that have access to strong creative, media, consulting, digital resources, Edelman lacks depth in these areas particularly creative. Also not strong in original content creation versus distribution. Also a dismal record when it comes to a committment to older workers and diversity in the management ranks. In an industry that champions "30 under 30"and "40 under 40" Edelman quietly sheds its graying workforce losing valuable experience and leadership in the process.

I worked with some of the brightest and best people in the business. Most of them are no longer with the company. Some good clients, and nice office space.

Very limited opportunities for growth. During my time they reduced promotions to only once a year, and made many excuses for promoting as few people as possible (despite becoming the first "$1B" agency at that time). Morale was extremely low. People were forced to come into an office with nobody they actually worked with. Common to be passed from manager to manager. At one point I had 6+ managers within a 10-month span.
