Vantaggi
Work-life balance was typically respected. The company was focused on an interesting new technology. Aside from the cons that I encountered, I can see how the overall experience could be exciting to some. There was a chance to gain experience and there were a few long-term growth opportunities. There was still a bit of the vibrancy of a "start-up" culture. There was a handful of very sharp and collaborative employees that were a pleasure to work with.
Svantaggi
Compensation was often at the low end of the spectrum. Inter-departmental dysfunction ran deep and cooperation was not the norm. The company seemed to operate as a thinly veiled dictatorship by a CEO who was not tolerant of dissent, and this made it difficult to feel comfortable raising questions or voicing concerns at any level of the organization. Recognition, reward, and appreciation were uncommon without substantial self-promotion. The resulting politics were a frustrating distraction. Organizational planning seemed to shift frequently and without clear objectives. I did not feel that the company marketed itself honestly, and this also made it difficult to feel good about being involved.
