Just being tied to Emory University does open doors and looks good on a résumé. The work Emory does is certainly highly reputable. -Equitable salaries. From my own experience talking with friends of color I work with, discussions of salaries have shown that, at least in my department, people with the same education and experience have very similar salaries regardless of race or gender. -Connections. Emory is one of the largest employers in Atlanta, which means it has connections to many other companies, universities, people, etc. You can build some fantastic connections in the community and beyond Atlanta this way. -Skills & Knowledge. You can learn a great deal and use the information and skills learned to help forward your career.

-Lack of diversity. Emory is like most other elite universities in that it is predominately white and the people who work or learn there are mostly from higher income backgrounds. Though it varies by department, Emory appears to have difficulty hiring people of color, especially Black and indigenous people, and even greater difficulty retaining those individuals. The lack of racial, ethnic, gender, and other forms of diversity becomes even more apparent as you ascend the income/position ladder there. As I mentioned above though, I will say after speaking with Black and other colleagues of colors there, it does appear that salaries are equitable within the same position (though this doesn't address the fact that more people of color remain stuck in the lower paid positions at Emory overall).
