Vantaggi
Co-Inventor of UNIX works for the company part-time CEO is a master of persuasion, and can get people to believe in things rather easily. Great marketing and product pitch. Company has a number of nicely made marketing videos on their website and youtube channel. Product vision itself appears to be a good idea assuming that nobody else is doing it. All meals are paid for. Insurance premiums paid for, and dental insurance itself is good.
Svantaggi
Priorities always changing, but extremely difficult to adapt to that based on lack of maintainability. CEO mandates 70-100 hour workweeks to attempt to make up for that, and every break you take has to be explicitly justifiable. Senior engineering role is a revolving door. Near zero chance of staying more than 6 months at the company if you are in that role (in my case I resigned after less than a month). Health insurance isn't good (high deductible health plan is all they offer, so don't get sick or any expensive procedures/tests until Jan 1 of the following year after you join if you want to get the most out of your health plan). 70-100 hour workweeks. In my opinion, people are also passively discouraged from taking breaks. Expect to get parking tickets often, as parking permits from the city are on a 9-month waiting list and you can only park for 2 hours max. In my opinion, the pay is far below market, even at this stage of the company. Stock options are also sub-par, and the reasoning I recall hear from the CEO on that is because he wants you to think that the company will be the next Google and therefore the actual dollar amount will be big if that happens. I would advise anyone seeking to join a startup that they ask for advice from experts (or read about startup equity compensation market rates) before weighing an offer package. The fact that a company "could" be worth something later doesn't matter, it only matters what they are worth today because the investors factor all of the "could be" as part of their risk valuation and ultimate pricing of the company. In my opinion, the founding team lacks intellectual diversity, as they are all father, son, daughter, spending all of their time together since birth. One philosophical weakness means they all have that weakness.
