Vantaggi

Generally good company benefits and compensation. Good if you like to work with hard and energetic workers; generally easy to get along with others. Company is willing to invest in tools that make sense for individuals and teams. Marketing/business is transparent with overall company strategy/direction.

Svantaggi

Hiring is focus on specialized engineering talent rather than those who are technical leaders. This tends to be bad for team camaraderie. Teams/groups tend to work as vertical silos rather than together; sometimes there is an effort to coerce cross team function rather than natural cohesion. Perhaps this is due to the lack of clear business objectives to engineering tasks. This is not due to faulty communication rather than a lack of leadership/management that can effectively translate objectives.

Vantaggi

I worked here when it was called "Trident Microsystems" in Austin, but they've since been bought by Entropic. Interesting work to be done. SoC design and implementation was fascinating, and I liked my colleagues and co-workers. A lot of "industry leading" technology was available to work with.

Svantaggi

The work atmosphere was terrible. I knew of people who were working until 4am, collapsing, and then coming back to work the next morning at 8am, for months at a time. Unrealistic schedule and goals. When I quit, we were losing 4-6 engineers a month with no backfills. The workload crept higher and higher daily. The management, sales, and marketing were making promises and demands that engineering could not keep up with. The Austin team has changed hands many times (Brooktree, Conexant, Phillips, NXP, Trident, etc) and there's no consistency. Overall, a toxic place to work.
