Incredibly passionate and supportive management and staff. Inspiring to be around so many brilliant people who work hard and also have enriching lives beyond the work place. Even throughout the attacks on federal service in 2025, everyone came together to keep morale high as we could through all the chaos, changes, uncertainty, layoffs, changing priorities, etc. Work itself is fulfilling and impactful. My manager cared deeply about my career goals and setting me up for success.

The current environment for federal workers under the Trump administration is hostile, chaotic, unsupportive. Even with regional management doing their best to provide clarity and advocate on your behalf. Due to all the major layoffs and voluntary resignations, divisions are extremely understaffed in some offices. I'd wait until 2028 to work for the federal government again.
