Unpaid Wages: Staff were frequently underpaid or had wages unlawfully deducted. I personally had to chase missing hours multiple times. Lack of Payslips & Transparency: Payslips were often provided only after payday, making it difficult to check for errors. Disrespectful Management: The branch owner spoke negatively about employees in front of others, yelled at staff in front of customers Management also failed to provide work contracts to some employees. Unlawful Practices: Employees were told they wouldn’t be paid after closing time due to "staff discounts" and a "chill work environment," Unfair Dismissal: Employees were let go with little to no justification, often without being given a fair chance to address concerns. Discussing Terminations Publicly: The manager openly spoke about plans to “let go” of employees in front of other staff members Unwillingness to Resolve Issues: When staff raised concerns, management would dismiss them instead of finding solutions, leaving employees feeling unheard and disrespected. No Real HR Support: Since Esquires is a franchise, HR has no authority over individual branches. Any issues have to be resolved with the in-store manager—even if they are the problem! This leaves employees with no real avenue to address serious concerns.
