Dictator-style leadership. They preach a 'flat organizational structure', in reality this means that one person, and one person only (the CEO) is in charge of all decisions. It's very unfornate that talented people aren't able to do what they're hired for, because everything they initiate is not taken seriously. A couple of times it has already happened that there were 2 people with a similar role, and the weakest performer would be fired (by 'weakest' performer I mean the person that isn't intimidated by the CEO's shouting and threats). What happens on a daily basis is that the CEO summons you to do one thing and then denies this the next day. Areas he has absolutely no knowledge of, or experience in, will still be affected by his decision making, which is not only very frustrating for the specialists in these fields, but it's also affecting the company in general. As you can imagine, employee retention is not even an existing phenomenon here. No corporate values to be found in this place, because the CEO himself can't even live up to those.

Thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm very sorry you feel this way about your time at Bolt. It pains me greatly that we weren't able to find a good solution and had to decide to not renew your contract. We value feedback very much and we're always looking to improve every facet of our organisation. So even though these things unfortunately did not become clear to us during your time working with us, I still want to thank you personally for taking the time in retrospect to point out how you perceived things and how this made you feel. Again, I'm truly sorry we did not find a way to make things work. However, I do want to bring some perspective to the statements as they're being put forward, since they are a poor reflection of the day to day reality as perceived by the majority of our employees. First some context: during this period we grew from 7 to 40 people in a few months, setting up multiple new teams in parallel, without having enough time to completely setup processes, systems and workflows in advance. Even though this is a super exciting challenge and provides a lot of opportunities, it also puts more stress on everyone involved. This is a natural part of any startup that becomes a scaleup and maybe even more so for hardware startups where there are many disciplines and processes needed. We use Officevie to track employee engagement. Every team member has access to this and can anonymously post suggestions, issues, comments or complaints in there and every single one gets read by HR and management. We take all these to heart and try to improve our organisation, process, structure, systems and management accordingly.
