Vantaggi
You get to leave at 17:00 on Fridays. After a 39.5 hour week at Euro Hell, you will be glad of that 30 minutes.
Svantaggi
Let's summarise the negatives I felt at EP with some bullet points. These will be mainly from development perspective: - Toxic environment - No project management - No projects! - The company has absolutely no idea about I.T. - Smart dress code (for I.T? seriously, come on) - Unscrupulous - Use pirated software. They gave me a cracked copy of CS5 and my anti virus complained constantly about Removewat being on the network - Management will blame you for their own short comings - Selling dreams to clients rather than what they can deliver - No source control (or any idea what it means) - No long term strategy - No short term strategy - No idea how to build a web team - Paranoid. There was CCTV INSIDE the office. - No collaborative tools. I suggested using Slack & Jira for example, this was met with opposition by all staff and management, because: - They didn't embrace change at all - The aforementioned paranoia; that it would be abused by staff to 'chat' - No agile or any other workflow methodology - Chaotic environment. i.e. work generated from something breaking horribly. - Ancient tech - Infrastructure is a mess - Sloppy integration - Flagrant disregard for security protocols - Poor wages - Remote working policy is awful and met with paranoia - Ageing I.T. workforce not brining in enough fresh talent - No idea what makes a good developer, and what makes a poor one - Couldn't organise a proverbial knees up in a brewery - literally. Came back from a small holiday to find they had organised a staff night out in a restaurant that had been closed for 18 months - Demands initiative, slams you for using it In summary, if you are a graduate, avoid this company, there are many many better options to learn I.T. and get your career going. If you're experienced, again, avoid. There's nothing to learn here and it will soon become obvious that the promise that EP are looking be cutting edge and improve is just rubbish. They won't support any notion of moving things forward. However, if you're a developer with a skillset from the 90's, struggling to find a job in the fast paced world of web, this could be just what you are looking for.
