Vantaggi
- Market knowledge (you have the opportunity to learn A LOT in a huge amount of time) - Unlimited territory (if you want to build out a new market, you can, you can pivot multiple times throughout career) - The parties (nice qualifying dinners, luncheons, company events, etc.) - The people (it's a young culture, filled with young, hungry and aggressive salespeople mostly anyway) - The commission (man it's great when you get a big commish check) - Benefits (medical, dental, and vision is great) - The standing desk (OMG it is life changing, I love it) - Competition (there are countless metrics of what you are up against, as an individual, team, division, etc. as someone who appreciates some healthy competition, I like it) Above all else here is the opportunity. It is by no means easy, but it is attainable, you just gotta work and put in the time. The lack of formal structure works for me because I like being able to run my desk the way I want, luckily, I am on one of the best teams in the company (believe me, that helps). The first year isn't great, it's a lot of no's and persistence (it is sales after all) but it is also life-changing when you finally "make it." You have an opportunity to change people's lives, helping them find a job they will love, that is super rewarding, just know how you can bring value.
Svantaggi
- Upward mobility (ICs are promoted because of billing, some people who bill, should not manage, there are other ways of monitoring management besides physical dollars and cents) - The draw (it would be great to just have a low base salary as opposed to a draw, however, when you get good, you just see pretty consistent commission checks) - Some bad hires (unfortunately, they make some bad hires which hurt our credibility in the market when we pick up new accounts, some markets should be off limits to new people until they "get" it) - Work/life balance (it's sales, so it's a lot of ramp-up and continuous pipeline management, there is no "down" time) - Diversity (depends on the team/division, however, there are some that are almost all male and there are some that are almost all female, that kind of stuff shouldn't happen in a corporate setting) - LDS (our Business Development team doesn't seem incentivized to bring in quality leads, most of them won't make the company money
