You will constantly ask yourself, "why did I get myself into?" Working at Extron was by far the worst company that I have ever worked for. If you have read other comments, you have probably asked yourself that it can't possibly be that bad. YES IT CAN. They do make excellent products, but it doesn't make up for the lack of humanity towards the employees. It is almost like a cult where you are constantly under supervision and their control, have your manager constantly looking over your shoulder, and you're fearful of the power that HR wields. I interviewed with HR approximately three times and with my direct manager once. Aside from the usual background check, they also make you take a physical. When you start working there, you have to endure their intense training sessions which last about two months. I recall how there were about 50 of us when we started- by the time it ended, there were only about 10 of us left. Each Monday, there were less and less of us. And during your training, you are recorded. For what? I don't know. As a salaried employee, you still have to swipe your card in/out, and yes, you have to ask permission from your manager to go to the bathroom. This is very demeaning. You can't take breaks at your desk; you must take them in a break section. If you smoke (which I don't) you can't smoke anywhere on the premises...this includes ACROSS THE STREET. In preparation for their big trade show that occurs in June, ALL employees are not allowed to take any time off. It doesn't matter if you have a child graduating from school, planned a vacation before you started to work there, etc. You will be denied. I remember that a girl, I think in marketing, was graduating from college. They would not let her take the day off to attend her own graduation! This is the type of company that is Extron and it shows you how they value their employees. I know that the economy is kind of tough right now, and you've gotta do what you've gotta do. But unless you want to feel unappreciated, stay away from Extron. If you're a "Yes, Man/Woman", then this is the place for you.
