Vantaggi
High salary Good place to get experience early in career Great opportunities for advancement if you're on the management track, a "Campus Hire" (hired out of school), and have a trailing spouse (and so are willing to move anywhere at any time)
Svantaggi
Low uptake of digitalization, new technologies, or new ways of working. Forced ranking and firing of bottom-ranked persons. Ranking includes a "potential" metric, which declines with age and is detrimental to older workers. Technical positions terminate at a much lower seniority level, and there are few options than management track positions. Internal job roles and assignments are assigned behind closed doors. Employees have a "choice" to accept the new job role presented to them, or refuse and face measures designed to force compliance or resignation. Inability to relocate for family reasons will result in feedback that the person is making a "career-limiting move". Not accommodating of dual careers where one spouse works outside of ExxonMobil. Not open to outside ideas, and therefore it is very difficult to integrate mid-career hires Hiring on mid-career is rare and has very limited role opportunities. Likely to get stuck in the same role for a prolonged period of time. Extremely secretive. "Conflict of Interest" compliance requirements are onerous to the point that it's almost impossible to work at ExxonMobil and have a family member who works for any company that happens to be on the vendor list (which includes 1000s of companies) or in any field related to the company's business interests (which covers a staggering number of professions in the modern digital age). Lots of unwritten rules. Officially there is a "Flexible working arrangement" policy that allows remote work, but unofficially it is frowned upon to use it.
