It's a regulated medical device. It doesn't allow for the use of many modern/lean project management approaches. The company has built a product that is a lot bigger than what the initial funding allowed for. So, the stress of running out of cash builds up.

The company follows a wonderful mission to make eye care more accessible to individuals and continually strives to initiate progression in the industry. As a small company, individuals have a great deal of autonomy and there is transparency within company workings.

As it is a small startup, funding can be a barrier that slows efforts. Minimal upwards mobility as there are few members of the company, however this also means that everyone has a good deal of responsibility and input.
