Some departments don't experience the issues I'm going to go into - they seem happy. Some teams/departments will allow you decent flexible freedom, but if you hold any real responsibility be prepared to put out fires after hours or cover the work of other devs who are quitting in droves and be thanked with a pat on the back.

I worked for finalsite for nearly 15 years, the pay has always been way below average. I've watched department directors leave to make more money as mid-level developers, dev after dev leave for 30+% more money for the same role elsewhere with less workload. I also recently left for a 30% increase in salary, and now have a team of 3 doing what I was doing alone at finalsite. The executives make decisions based on what will increase the quarterly numbers, instead of address the mid to long term issues. We've been under staffed and over worked in development and deployment. When someone leaves, they consistently spread their responsibility on to the other devs for no extra pay. Finalsite started outsourcing work for $8/h in Bucharest to try and save a buck, but the fulltime staff still has to fix their broken output and support them, which just adds to our workload, and we end up pushing a janky product out for our clients because of it. Our HR department was essentially non existent until an executive harassed an employee resulting in that employee quitting. The solution from the executive team was everyone got to do sexual harassment training, and the CEO gave the harasser a full pass, where he continued to behave inappropriately in other instances. They are church buddies so what did we expect. Addressing the CEO about these and more issues personally during my final days, he deflected, made excuses and played the victim card. [being a ceo is hard, i have a lot on my plate, some of these things are the managers responsibilities, this isnt a strategy to overload you guys with work and under pay you] etc. Yet failing to own that he's been aware and has done nothing to solve any of these issues for years. There's a positive review on here saying the CEO for covid "promised no layoffs and there were none!". That's a lie. We laid off 3 people in the same department as that person who wrote the review. A lot of recent positive reviews on here seem pretty fabricated. Also if you're a manager that doesn't want to overwork and squeeze your employees, track record shows you'll likely be fired and replaced with someone who will.
