Be sure to understand work life balance with the hiring manager during the interview. Ask the manager directly how they do this themselves; from my experience it varied from manager to manger. Unfortunately, during my time with the company I experienced a death in the family. Though I worked normal hours, finished assignments, and was happy to join every meeting I possibly could given the situation, my manager expected I work around the clock and answer emails outside of normal working hours as my family member was actively dying — and they sadly used this against me during my EOY review. Be sure to tack all your successes and don’t hold back during your performance review. They are willing to let go employees that aren’t above and beyond but are not transparent in the process. The pace of the work is also a challenge. I left wanting a kinder environment where I could collaborate more with my esteemed dietetic peers.
