The co-workers are all tight-knit, possibly due to having a union. Its also very enjoyable at times with a vast array of personalities.

Absolutly no respect from the higher ups in the company. Not even a "hello". Due to the lay-offs we've experienced, the work load can be overwhelming if not mentally prepared. The demand for our material is sometimes ALOT higher than we can provide. Its also a predominantly outside job as well.

You'll earn a paycheck but they will try to low-ball you on salary before hiring.

Many existing staff has 20-30 years with the company. Unfortunately they treat new employees like 3rd class citizens. If you work in the warehouse, expect to be worked to death with much micromanagement and little team support. Turnover literally borders on ridiculous. If you are working in customer service, (they like to try to call it "inside sales, it's not) you are micromanaged to the point where you really can't "sell" anything. You are given a 3 ring binder full of about 3000 products and a half dozen "price breaks" depending on product line. Deviate from it in an effort to "build a relationship" with a customer, and expect to be reprimanded. Also expect to take the blame for nearly anything and everything that goes wrong in the company service wise. They have a nice little setup for the outside sales reps though. They give the customer service people orders to key in but always leave the prices and part numbers off the order. You have to put the order back in their company mailbox. Not an email mailbox mind you, literally an old school slot that you'd see at a post office. Then they can doctor the order if they make a mistake and turn it in to management and accounting. Meanwhile unless you cover yourself really well, you will get thrown under a bus. If they promise you an individual commission based program, that has been in the works between 4 and 10 years. They have likely used this tactic with the dozen or so employees that have worked in this department in the last 10 years alone. If you are not considered "management" in this company, you are nothing, and they will remind you of that daily, with nepotism, favoritism, deception, out and out lies, and the aforementioned nonsense that the outside sales reps pull listed above. Receptionists refuse to put callers on voicemail, and will page you if your phone is on "busy" so management knows you are away from your desk, or not answering. If you are away too long in their opinion, your coworkers will throw you under a bus. Toxic work environment. If you are a conscientious hardworking individual, they will take advantage of you. They value employees who take less initiative over those who take more initiative and blow smoke about how busy they are. Make a mistake and everyone will hear about it. If it's non really a mistake, they will make it one. They spout off cliche ideas like "culture change" but it's utter nonsense. This is the closest thing you can get that mirrors the nonsense in our federal government without all the benefits. Choose this company to work for if you are unemployed only, and keep looking. You deserve better.
