I can't speak for the London office, but the bureau in Macclesfield became soul destroying. I worked there for over 3 years, first 2 were fantastic then the management changed, turnaround of about 60- 80 staff in the time I worked there which speaks for itself in an office that holds 60 members of staff. No people management, No bonuses (no matter what is promised) The management will overwork you if your capable, I have seen the strongest of personalities break.

The employees of Fourth are some of the best people you could work with anywhere and I'm pleased this was reflected in your experience with us. In terms of our Bureau Operation in Macclesfield, we now have 2 senior leaders that support that Director of Bureau as well as a team of highly experienced payroll managers and supervisors. In addition, we have a CiPP approved payroll academy which can take someone through from a trainee with no experience to a fully accredited payroll manager. Whilst we don't have a formal bonus system, we regularly reward employees that truly embody our values - simple, honest, quality, enjoy. We aim to recognise the efforts people make frequently and fairly. As you advise, we will continue to look for ways to improve the employee experience at Fourth.

Very few pros come to mind, there were some great people on the individual contributor level I worked with across multiple teams however many left or are on their way out.

This is a highly toxic and disorganized work environment. Leadership’s lack of knowledge, direction, and experience is apparent. When I started, leadership was disengaged and disconnected to everything. I noticed there was a sudden and obvious change in leadership’s approach where “urgent” asks from above were being requested with little to no context. Unrealistic and changing expectations started being communicated as the norm. This caused confusion, chaos, and burn out, resulting in extremely low morale across teams. Concerns and feedback were either ignored or people were penalized/suddenly terminated for speaking up. Lastly, it doesn’t go unsaid there is no work life balance or professional boundaries here. This is a work environment that sets people up for failure and can have a serious impact on overall well-being.
