Vantaggi

- The people are great. Everyone is super kind and very generous with their time. Each team is different in terms of their personality and culture, but it is universal that everyone is willing to step in to get stuff done and to help each other out. - The pace is very reasonable. Despite being a startup, there's no expectation of working more than 40 hours per week, the work hours are flexible, and when workloads are light I've found management to be very open to you taking some coursework to help expand your skillset - So long as there is a need for the work, company is very open to letting you move around in terms of frontend, backend, mobile, etc. - I found the compensation to be very good given they're a series C startup. I was able to get a salary boost coming from a manager position in my last company (where I was at for 4.5 years) to a senior software engineer role here. - Fuzzy is pet Telehealth, and that feels good to be a part of. It's not Uber, door dash, or some other big tech company with either questionable ethics or questionable business models. Feels good being at a company that is not evil! It's also just a great idea in my opinion. - Surprisingly good documentation for a company this small. There's a culture of "reading" here and I've been pleasantly surprised just how much is in docs you can read and not just universal tribal knowledge. - Slack is generally pretty quiet unless you're a manager, and when it's not quiet it's because your team are effective communicators that know how to use slack in a way that's productive but not overwhelming.

Svantaggi

While we have product market fit on our main offering (acute care for which you chat with a vet to understand what is up with your pet right now), we're still finding our footing for what else we can do to provide value to our members. We've had some great initiatives that the entire company has been behind recently and we're seeing some traction, but it's still too early to tell if we've hit the nail on the head yet. I've got faith in our product folks to help us get there, but it is a bummer that we're not on the hockey stick growth trajectory just yet. Other cons: - Backend is in rails. I think we do a great job of keeping it tight and organized (I've seen it go wrong before), but I'm personally not a big fan. - When we don't have an aggressive initiative that the company is fully behind, the pace can feel too slow (IMO) and there's not a lot of incentive (carrot or stick) to move fast. My team especially does well with deadlines that are just a little tight that we sign off on, so when that's missing (company deciding what to do next) it can feel like we're just scooting along rather than marching on a mission. - Similar to above, we really, really think through every decision we make in terms of code changes pretty hard. I sometimes think we move too slow and too carefully given how small and new we are. I wish we could sometimes get a green light to move a little quicker, be that having more authority to bypass QA when something is small, or having less cooks in the kitchen when making changes.
