Some of the work at GAP Talent is particularly interesting and captivating, this includes working within the travel and hospitality desk as there are a real range of positions to work on and with roles offering relocation to countries you would never have thought of before. The work can be varied and this is both exciting and captivating leading you to learn a lot about different cultures but also getting to speak with a wide range of different people which can lead to some fantastic conversations and you can make good connections through this. Another highlight of working at GAP Talent is the people they employ, out of all of the regular team members which I worked with during my time at GAP there was not anyone who I disliked or did not get along with, we all had a great laugh with each other despite some of us working across 3 different countries, definitely made some friends for life through GAP!

Unfortunately GAP Talent has faced serious failures in the way the business has been run. They have done an incredible job to obtain partnerships with some big accountancy firms (despite from a recruiting perspective these roles are very boring to fill and you get minimal satisfaction out of them) this does not show an accurate reflection of how the business is actually run. There has been poor forecasting and planning shown from the moment I started at GAP however, it only became clearer the longer I was there. When I started at GAP the company was around 40 strong, they had hired many Talent Managers from an influx of work that was created by COVID. GAP did not forecast managing to keep a supply of work to keep these people which then led to over half of these workers being made redundant at short notice. This was a big start in the remaining employees becoming unsettled, as I mentioned before the people who worked at GAP were one of the best things about working there. Everyone got along very well so when your friends get made redundant the culture shifts massively. Many more poor management decisions were made in my time at GAP, too many to mention on here some including poor senior hires which led to strategy constantly being changed and no one knowing what was going on with the business or where they stood with the business wondering if they were going to be next to get the chop! As a younger member of the team it was also very difficult for me to learn from management as they kept making these mistakes and angering their team while at the same time setting no example of how to be a good recruiter. They would spend all their time in meetings discussing how to run the business which seemed to be being run into the ground and no good changes were ever made. The team constantly asked for training around areas such as business development which no one had done before and we were all being pushed to do but the training never came only "advice" from management who were so far unattached from the world of recruitment by this point that they were giving advice on what recruitment was like 20 years ago and the advice given did not help in the slightest as they would say things like "there is no magic formula I can give you" etc basically sending us on a trial and error mission with no support. There were other things such as a lack of salary increases, a complete lack of a commission structure and a poor system of paying commission whereby you would work roles in a 360 capacity but only receive a very very small portion in commission. While on the benefits side it definitely should be mentioned that there were many benefits included with working at GAP Talent when I joined and one by one these benefits got axed off with the promise of something to come in to replace them which never happened leaving no benefits at the company by the time I left. Ultimately I have never heard of any company where so many people are actively looking for a new role and I think that in itself says a lot.
