Vantaggi
As I prepare to take on a new role and move on from GC Micro, I wanted to take the time to write a review about them as I think their rating is too low here. This is a really cool small business with great company culture, leadership that always felt they were there for me, and just a rare positive vibe throughout.
Sales and account management are tough jobs, not for the faint of heart, but I think the way they offer support without micromanaging here is really special. I always felt like I had a lot of resources to reach out to, and that our reputation with our customers gave me a solid chance to win opportunities. I want to especially highlight their training program which was SO unique and cool - we got to watch some really interesting motivational material and there was as much focus on the mental aspect of sales as there was on technique. I really liked that and think I got more out of this role than just job skills.
Also the comp - very enticing. There are account managers here that are up around 200-300k ever year. They have been doing this for years and got very good, so you're not going to get there for a while, but for a hungry learner? You could make a fortune at GC Micro.
Svantaggi
The primary con is a steep learning curve - this is a role selling computer equipment to federal government programs and prime contractors. It is SO cool to get to work with NASA programs for instance, but you really have to dedicate time to learning their world and language, the government operates differently than anyone I've worked with before. I had strong performance in role and was able to consistently hit my numbers as I got more seasoned - but that could not have happened if I hadn't dedicated time and energy to really learning their world.
