Vantaggi
The company is fast-paced, and the high turnover rate will quickly add more responsibilities to your workload. There is a lot of collaboration with other departments, and you will quickly find yourself being a part of many project teams and providing meaningful work. You might also find yourself cross-trained with other departments to meet the growing needs of the company. Some management executives are nice and willing to help if needed. This is a challenging environment that requires a lot of time and commitment but will also boost your employment potential elsewhere in your professional career. Other pros include weekly paychecks and GMF also provides many activities outside of work hours and some weekends.
Svantaggi
There is an office culture problem. There are a lot of corporate buzzwords thrown around like saying we’re a family and wanting a grind mindset. The truth is you won’t have a work-life balance here and no boundaries since you’re expected to show up to work activities after work hours and people are quick to rat you out for their own gain within the company. They look for self-starters because there isn’t a proper onboarding process or development, and you will mostly have to figure out how to do things on your own. You will find yourself quickly knowing that most people are new. GMF is big on micromanagement and overworking which causes a high turnover rate within the company. In my department, you will figure out your duties as you go and will be dumped with tasks until you burn out. There’s no clear path for promotions and your performance is not evaluated properly. The management mindset is to dangle a carrot on a stick over you with promises of promotions and pay increases in the future with no room to negotiate. On top of being overworked, GMF underpays its engineers and does not give any proper vacation time off compared to your graduate peers. The culture is to demand absolute loyalty and they verbally tell you that you’re expected to stay later in the office, continue working at home, and give up weekends all for the benefit of the company. The turnover rate will not get fixed anytime soon.
