Vantaggi
You are in the epicenter of the unhoused population, you can help when help is available! Everyone is on the same team, they want to help the individuals in need. Security makes you feel safe. Right next to a MercyCare, that is convenient for clients!! The partnerships are great- everyone knows Gateway!!! They have mental health days

A lot of cursing, from everywhere. Many standard things, if you have worked with the unhoused population, you know. A lot of times, unrealistic expectations are set with clients (i.e. someone telling them "they can get you a house," "they will put you in shelter today,") when we only can do or give things that are available. Sometimes, people are not where they are supposed to be, staff wise, which is inconvenient. Sometimes, you may be exposed to pepper spray, or threats. Because people always need help, and it is your job to help, sometimes people will arrange clients to show up when it is time to go or when you are no longer assessing, and you have to make alternate arrangements for them until the next day if there is nothing for you to do for them that day. Overall the company is good. The pay needs to be better for that level of exposure to illness (TB, COVID, scabies, etc), potential safety issues, the long hours, emergency situations, and things like that. The exposure to illness and lack of good pay is why I left, I was not making a livable wage. Oh and you have to pay for parking, but you get reimbursed, thing is, the parking lots are not always the safest.
