Vantaggi
- Good commute if you live in North Seattle - Some excellent developers - Pay is not bad
Svantaggi
- High level "leadership" is either completely absent, or actively destructive, depending on their mood. - Middle management and PMs run the company, but at present there is nobody in ANY of these rolls who has ever been a software developer, or understands software development. Engineers have very little voice in the company. - There's been an exodus of talent from GenUI over the last couple years, not only in engineering, but in sales as well. Some good people remain (for now), but they can't prop up a broken company. - During your interview, they'll talk up how they practice pair programming and TDD, but in practice we don't actually do this much, because clients don't want to pay for it, and "leadership" is unwilling to argue for it anymore. Common test coverage for a project usually runs in the 0-10% range, and over half of projects aren't pair programming. - When interviewing with GenUI, they'll show you how fun the Fremont office is, but chances are you will not be working in it (at least, not for long). GenUI is a "butts in seats" company, and you will very likely end up working out of a client's office on a long term contract sooner or later.
