Vantaggi
There used to be some whenever I began, but now there are zero. I started working at GCA in 2016 and it was a solid job with low pay, but the flexibility for students and teachers was fantastic. Now, the pay is dismal, and I was working over 50 hours a week to keep my head above water.
Svantaggi
Low pay, they fire you if you have an opinion that differs from the Head of School, the Head of School has a business degree and homeschooled her own children before somehow inheriting an entire charter school, teachers are treated with disdain and disrespect, outside applicants are hire before internal ones, and 2 of them have criminal records (ha!), the board of the school let's the Head of School do whatever she wants because they also do not understand education with their limited experience and scope, students are forced to be on the computer for almost 8 hours a day, teachers don't have a common planning period with their colleagues - they have to meet after working hours if they *want* to do that, IEP meetings last 1-2 hours and often bleed into non-work hours, no empathy for students/families or teachers during a worldwide pandemic, told a teacher she doesn't have a future with GCA in administration or leadership because of her letter to the Board. WORST place to work - run run run!
