Vantaggi

As an employee GA Tech's academic side is great to work for. There is a lot of excitement, talent, and funds to keep life exciting. The campus is beautiful and generally the other staff are enjoyable to work with.

Svantaggi

The business side of Tech is a bit different. The various business units operate as individual entities, and the bottom line is everything. Devisions such as OIT continually get stuck in red tape and politics, consistantly getting mired down and not accomplishing goals. Unfortunately there are also many employees...legacy employees...that will not grow into the present, relying heavily on the 'old way' of doing things. If you get stuck in one such department you will spend much of your time trying to determine why things have to be so complicated. Also as a state institue the budgets are directly effected by Georgia's state budgets. For the last three years I was there employees did not receive annual merit raises, yet tuition continued to increase annually. Regardless of status (hourly and salaried) Tech is very stingy with vacation/paid time off and sick leave as if it were a personal affront.

Great Benefits. That was it

Svantaggi

The pay is egregiously bad. My boss would commonly talk about how teachers are underpaid while unaware that teachers actually make more than financial analysts at Georgia Tech. They have also recently instituted a return to work policy that requires all staff to be back on site 5 days a week. This has led to a lot of turnover and hiring has not kept up from what I've seen leading to overworked employees. In my 2.5 years at tech I realized that the vast majority of people are just trying to run out the clock so they can cash their pension in. This leads to very few motivated workers and it is an easy trap to fall into. Little financial incentives to progress. No end of year bonuses, little annual raises if any at all, and no senior analyst roles mean there are few financial incentives to "try". When I started they had analyst levels 1 through 3 but that abolished and everyone was put under the title of analyst. Overall I would not recommend to anyone unless you are a student looking for expirence.
