The leadership is a total clownshow. Here is just a few examples that demonstrate (I could have put several more) After all-time low scores in the company-wide engagement survey last month, they set out to run "focus groups" to understand why staff were so unhappy. They hand-picked a selection of written feedback they received and put them in a pre-reading pack for some focus groups - the feedback they chose to use included phrases like "I would like to thank the leadership for their exemplary communication" - not exactly representative of the general sentiment that had been expressed in the survey, and clearly not indicative of a leadership team who really does want to listen and learn how to improve. When they set out to make 13% of the company redundant in May, they opened a Voluntary Exit process for most of the company. 20% of the company chose to leave, with an exec member later proudly bragging that they didn't run any exit interviews and that they were happy those people chose to leave because "they didn't want to be on the bus". To compound this, GoCardless had to reopen hiring to fill out the extra 7% of people that left above their target 13%, but managed the process so badly that they overhired and had to put in place a company-wide hiring freeze barely a month later.

As part of the pre-read we wanted to demonstrate areas where there was conflicting feedback, where leadership communication was one where we had both positive and constructive feedback. We appreciate your advice to management. Our company values are not just words on a wall and everyone is held accountable to them. We are actively working towards aligning our behaviours with these values and fostering an environment where everyone's voice is heard and all feedback is genuinely considered.

Everyone is really kind and helpful. People stay for the company culture.

Absolutely no upward mobility. No promotions or raises. The company is in a tough spot financially. It's very sellable but customer retention and growth is a major problem and no one has the answers to solve for it.
