Vantaggi
I got this job because I'm a felon and it was a shoo-in. I have had many opportunities to learn new skills and bring in a paycheck in a system built against me.
Svantaggi
The management, from local to corporate, has no idea at all what they are doing. On a regular basis, at any given location, product (un/sorted), salvage goods, and furniture donations are backed up to a hazardous level. When it gets to that level, I am told there will be consequences if I cannot rectify the situation, while still receiving more donations, because as a storefront, we are not allowed to turn away any donation that isnt illegal or hazardous. As well, there are production goals, which is understandable, except when you realize it's purely donation based, meaning there may not be enough product to make the goal at all, or there may be enough product, but it doesn't measure up to Goodwill's near perfect expectation of all their product. If the quality drops, and we make goal with that "bad" product, we are still in trouble for that. This job has made me physically ill to the point of flulike symptoms, severe constipation, and vomiting, all during and days after work. When I bring up that I am ill and need to take care of myself, I am told to make it through the day and to not call out the following. I have also been told "no" on occasions when I have attempted to call out of work. On the subject of management again, it took seven whole months of working the appropriate hours and performing all of the job requirements before I was offered to become full time, and given benefits. This is not a place I would recommend anyone to work at, not even my worst of enemies.
