In a short time, the second generation managed to drive away most of the competent and hard working employees. Coworkers either left for other companies or quit with no notice (it’s that bad). One particularly horrendous decision was promoting the owner’s son in law as the company’s vice president. His wife is the “CEO”, despite having no meaningful experience. Instead of coming in with some semblance of humility and willingness to learn the family business, he thinks he has all the answers. He (and his wife) undermined competent, loyal, long term employees to clear a path for his promotion. Employees are overworked, under-appreciated and seen as a “necessary evil”. “Managers” can’t differentiate between the productive people and those who just stay for 9 -10 hours and do nothing.
