Svantaggi
A vortex of diversity -- This is a white-dominant organization. Specifically in Community Happiness, there were NO people of color when I interviewed at the tail end of 2021. Yes, let that sink in: They only started hiring people of color for their contact center TWENTY-ONE years into the new millenium. There was ONE African-American supervisor, but he had only been hired about a month before me. Plus, during their most recent round of layoffs, they got rid of him, too, which tells you this is a company that is by white people -- for white people. This was painfully aware when I was told by one supervisor that he heard another supervisor refer to Latinas as having "spicy temperaments." To normal, upstanding people, this is racist language. To Grove, this was funny language. Layoffs -- I had been a Grove Guide a full three months before I came in one day, and they had us all in a large Zoom meeting, and told us that they were laying everyone off -- with no benefits continuation and no warning. I also noticed they got rid of many of the black employees. Again, by white people, for white people. Poor leadership -- This is a start-up environment, and they make decisions like they're in one: throwing darts to find out what sticks, only to change course completely the next day. Case in point: the 30% off mobile sale that stressed out Grove Guides because of no forewarning.
