In terms of legalities, our paperwork is standard for our industry. After all, restrictive covenants are not unusual in a competitive technology-based vertical like the one we work in. There is no clause that restricts former employees from using their skills to earn a living outside of a direct competitor. But we certainly encourage our employees to carefully read any and all paperwork, as it is a best practice at any company. It also allows an opportunity for an in-depth discussion between employer-employee, and might help clear things up at an early stage to avoid confusion at a later point, which seems to be the case here.
