Summer Student Experience - Recensione dipendente - Engineering Summer Student presso Hardline Engineering

Hardline is a relatively small, tight-knit company filled with knowledgeable and kind people. In my short time there, I was placed on a great team where I was able to learn and practice new skills. I could ask any question I had and was always met with respectful and insightful answers. I was given many opportunities to learn in various areas rather then just being an excel monkey. It was truly a pleasure getting to know and working with such a talented group. The company culture was also very positive, especially within my specific team, although there were times when people were worked quite a bit. Overall, it was a great experience.

During my time at Hardline, I honestly didn’t encounter many cons. It may have been the “honeymoon phase” of starting a new role, where everything feels new and exciting, but genuinely, I have no real complaints after completing my four-month term.

Nice people, vacation starts at 3 weeks

In my specific department (Street Lighting), I was not giving adequate training. I was given billable projects to draft pretty soon after employment. I hadn't had real AutoCAD experience before and I was still learning. I was there for about 2 months, did not pass probation. I made a few mistakes, but I was caught off guard by the decision. I was hesitant to ask for help at times, sometimes because everybody seemed to be busy. It seems like I didn't have enough experience for the role I was put in. I was not the perfect worker by any means as I was new, but on the other hand the training was not adequate, I was required to draft large drawings correctly multiple many parts with only a month or two of drafting experience. I was expected to know things that were not even taught, with little room to try and fail myself since they were billable hours. The rest of the company however were nice people. The street light department specifically at the time I worked there was just not the right fit for me.
