I am approaching 7 plus years at Health Catalyst, and I have served in a variety of roles during my time. Much has been said about what it is like to work at Health Catalyst, and I would share that my experience matches most of what others have shared. As with anything in life, the quality of the experience in large part depends on what you are willing to invest into it. Giving your all will create opportunity and generate success-- giving less will generate less. I have learned much from a professional standpoint through my associations with the fantastic team members I have had the privilege to work with over the years. But more importantly, I have become a better person for my time here, and I hope I have contributed as much as I have benefited. My time at Catalyst has truly been the cornerstone of my career.

We work in a difficult industry. To succeed, we are required to constantly challenge the status quo. We don't always do this quickly enough, and we have collectively made our fair share of mistakes along the way. However, I am proud of the fact that we seem to have embedded the desire to change and adapt when called for into our DNA. I believe this is a core competency of our culture. However, this results in a higher level of chaos as the norm, and if you don't do well in environments where change is constant, Health Catalyst is probably not the place for you. If you thrive in change, you will love it here.

Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
