Vantaggi

I’ve met some wonderful people who I love with all my heart. They are creative, fun, kind and really love dogs. And they deserve much better than this company.

Svantaggi

If you’re thinking of applying for a job at this company, you should know that there's a good chance your hours will be cut a lot, you will not be treated nicely and you will eat lunch in front of bathrooms. The insurance they offer doesn’t cover anything until you pay $6000 out of pocket(unless you choose to pay more from each check). They’d promise you tips but keep in mind that if you’re applying for a bather position you’ll only get tips for your dogs, not groomers’ dogs. Even if you spent 2.5 hours bathing, brushing, drying, de-matting and cutting nails a huge doodle, groomers will get all the tips because they did the haircut. They will overbook you and still expect all your dogs to be ready on time. If another bather calls out and they can't find anyone to cover, you’d have to take some (or all) of their dogs, plus your dogs, plus groomer’s dogs. You will also be expected to do all the cleaning (all bathers) because groomers and managers rarely help. Too much work for minimum wage and half the tips. So unless you’re in a critical position and you need any job right now I would recommend to look elsewhere. If you have no choice but to take a job at HS please read the whole review so you know what to expect and whatever they tell you don't go to West Hollywood salon. It sounds strange since Healthy Spot was voted one of the best companies to work for in 2019. But here’s the thing, when you start in the company, they offer you a small gift if you write a good review (at least that's what they told me). Many people fall for that because in the beginning they make your job look very good with all their values, trainings, discounts, cultural orientations etc. My phone interview was amazing, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to get a job in such a great company. Don’t let them fool you like they fooled me and many others. You’ll be treated like trash by some clients and HS will always take their side, no matter how crazy, unreasonable and unfair clients are. Some of owners’ friends would come in for service and expect to be treated like Gods and they would actually say: do you know who I am? I guess you can say this things about any business but you’ll definitely experience a lot of this in HS. But the worst thing is not clients but some managers. Here are some examples from my experience. Manager #1. This one takes pleasure in bullying people. The thing she tells everyone is: I made two people cry, I can make you cry too. I can think of at least six people who she said this to. When you ask people why they asked to transfer from WeHo, most of them say it’s because of her. The way she talks to people is very disrespecting and demeaning. But she makes money for the salon so HQ pretends not to notice anything. They would rather keep hiring and training new bathers who would leave a couple of months later. Manager #2. She was the lead groomer when I was in WeHo but she is not very good with dogs. She doesn’t believe in seatbelt method and puts the lead around dog’s neck regardless of the breed. One time she used it on the English bulldog and dog’s parent was upset and had to tell her she couldn’t do that. She likes to write people up and send videos to HQ when groomers/bathers make tiniest mistakes. Well, I watched two dogs falling off her table two days in a row. I don’t remember the exact date, but it happened between Sept 1-15th, 2019. I’m sure she didn’t send those videos to HQ and didn’t write herself up. The first dog came in for the nail grind after lunch, the second dog came in the next day, or maybe two days later. It doesn’t matter, no one’s going to check. But at least now they can’t say they didn’t know. One time she got physical with me. I complained to the manager and the video was sent to HQ. Guess what happened to her? That’s right! Nothing! Because she is friends with manager #3, which makes her untouchable, I guess. The next day I got a very lame, very fake apology during which she was smiling. Then I was transferred to another location. A little about manager #3. She works at HQ so she's a higher level. There was an email from her that said: “it’s OK to overbook groomers. You’ll be surprised to see how fast they can move”. It’s a quote!!! You’ll be surprised how fast they can move! Dear managers, dear HR, we don’t take our ten minutes breaks. We don’t always take our lunches and when we do it’s often 15-20 minutes. Do you know how much money you owe us for that? We punch in and out like we supposed to because when we don’t you want us to sign meal waiver or write us up. And you want us to take in more dogs. She didn’t send this email on a slow month when we had no business. No, she sent it in May, right after we reopened after quarantine and every other dog coming for grooming was severely matted. Then they took away de-matters. Instead of training bathers properly they take away a tool that makes the job easier. So now groomers must help bathers with de-matting. Then they cut front desk hours and added cleaning check list. So, overbooked groomers help bathers with de-matting and answer phones at the same time. Finish all their dogs on time, send nightly books and clean the salon. One of the company’s core value is: “we believe our best investment is in our people”. I worked in grooming in four different salons and I can tell you it’s not true. There is no water cooler in Century City Salon( at least when I worked there) . They expect us to get water from water fountains in the mall, which only has cold water. So if you want to have a cup of hot tea you have to go to starbucks and pay $2,5. And if you want two cups of tea a day, it’s $5. That’s how much they care about you. Break areas ( if you can call them that) in some salons are located right in front of bathrooms. Enjoy your lunch while someone is pooping right behind the door. It gets even better. When the whole Covid thing got worse, they sent us an email saying that only one person can be there at one time and suggested others to go “eat outside”. Who cares that it’s cold, who cares there’s poop and homeless people everywhere? Go eat outside. They didn’t even give us small plastic table and chairs. I guess we were supposed to eat at the parking ☹ I read reviews on the glassdoor and some people said they felt like they needed psychological help after working at HS. I feel the same way too. I used to come home and cry every night. I was bullied to the point where I developed a drinking habit which led to more serious health issues which I still haven’t fixed because insurance doesn’t cover anything and I didn't make enough money at HS to pay $6000 deductible. It will take months of meditation to get HS out of my system. Another thing I had a problem with is gossiping. Managers not only participate but also encourage it.

Cool customer base. Easy work.

Svantaggi

DO NOT WORK HERE!! If you are disrespected by a customer, Healthy Spot will take their side and terminate an employee. Weird cult like behavior from corporate that has management micromanaging you so you upsell everything and take advantage of people by suggesting they buy more expensive things than they actually need. The assistant manager would tell me inappropriate stories about her life outside of work. Management is constantly lecturing you to sell sell sell and act like a disingenuous car salesman. Weird cliques within grooming. I asked the corporate grooming instructor who became acting HR when the company got bought out for dental insurance questions and she never got back to me, and then I was terminated. There’s better jobs out there.
