Vantaggi
The majority of the people who choose to work here are dedicated, experienced, intelligent, and highly compassionate. Some members of leadership truly care about their team and do as much as they can to create a healthy work environment. The work is extremely meaningful, and supporting the success of refugees in Pittsburgh is very very important.
Svantaggi
Some key members of leadership including the CEO seem to value numbers and statistics (ie ego boosters) over actual care for clients and staff. Staff is expected to self-exploit under the guise of "doing all that we can". This is successful because most of the people that work there truly care and do not want to see clients suffer and therefore put their own needs and payment and hours to the side to "do what has to be done". This mindset is expected. When leadership is told that the amount they are expected to do is unreasonable, too much, leading to burnout, or not realistic, leadership places the burden of rethinking and reorganizing on staff rather than accepting the responsibility of creating a healthy work environment. While this organization does so much to help refugees and is facing many obstacles in doing so, some members of leadership behave in actively harmful ways to both clients and staff. Some members of leadership display clear rampant white saviorism and are unwilling to recognize the harm they are causing because this harm, in the least, gives them the ego boost they are looking for.
