Vantaggi

Honestly, if I could give it 4.5 stars, that would really be my rating. I like it here, but it's definitely not perfect. The people are pretty amazing. They're smart and kind and generally people I'd want to hang out with if we lived in the same place. But we don't, because we're 100% remote. And that's pretty awesome too. People love our product. It's nice to work for a company that people genuinely appreciate. We're definitely customer-focused, which is so much nicer than some of the companies I've worked for where they're just obsessed with the next enterprise deal. The work-life balance is solid here. Lots of parents and people who have lives outside of work. The opportunity for ownership is great. I'm the kind of person that likes to drive my own work and tinker with problems, and I get that here.

Svantaggi

It's messy. I've been here a year and there's definitely a lot of whiplash from strategy changes. At times it's really hard to see where we're actually going, but things have felt a LOT better since the Fall, and I'm genuinely excited for what we're doing right now. There's a lot of turnover. Some teams just feel less stable than others.

Vantaggi

Working at Help Scout as an engineering manager has been an incredibly rewarding experience so far. The company's recent adoption of the Practitioner Rule for engineering managers has been a perfect fit for my career. It allows me to stay technically engaged through activities such as development and code/design reviews, while primarily focusing on nurturing my team's potential. The company's commitment to seamless communication and collaboration is remarkable, especially as a remote-first company. The folks here are excellent communicators and bring a great sense of humor into the workplace. The company takes initiative to train its managers and provides essential resources for personal and professional growth. While Help Scout maintains a high standard of performance, there's still a healthy work-life balance. There's no prevalent micro-management culture. Instead, 'bias towards action' is encouraged, as long as it aligns with the business and team objectives. Another aspect I like about the company is its willingness to take calculated risks. This fosters hope for the future and uplifts morale, as the rewards may go beyond those provided in a low-risk environment.

Svantaggi

One downside may be the overall compensation package. Nevertheless, this is balanced by the excellent health benefits and generous subsidy for co-working spaces, home setups, and career development resources.
