Vantaggi

Great mission. People have best intentions to do good work. Has good reputation on the outside.

Svantaggi

Internal operations can be highly chaotic and stressful as staff are exploited and expected to wear too many hats. Management is abusive. Yelling, backbiting and gaslighting are commonly done against people who may not be a part of the senior management clique. The common nonprofit phenomena where promotions are made of people for having excelled in program, while greatly lacking and never were taught leadership skills holds true in this organization. If you look closely, you will find consistent staff turnover with the exception of "the clique of about 8." If you've ever experienced an abusive, hostile relationship or work environment and excelled, then this is the place for you. If you are Black and/or a women and not part of "the clique," be prepared to experience additional slights here. Independent, creative thinking is not appreciated here, only at face value. Fragile egos and micromanaging are commonplace.

Vantaggi

The mission is strong. They serve people in need, and they are a necessary non-profit in the sector. Strong presence in NYC.

Svantaggi

Leadership has no vision for the work it does. The organization cannot decide whether it exists to help only Latinos or people from all backgrounds. Senior leadership has been in place at the organization for so long that they have forgotten how to function effectively. They are a large nonprofit of 145 people, but operate like a small one. Senior leadership will hang you out to dry in a second if you make a mistake. No mentorship or coaching is provided. Do not get on the bad side of the SVP of Communications, or she will burn your image in the organization, though that would require her to actually do work, which is a rare occurrence. If you work for this org, get ready to have five bosses, each telling you what to do and how to do it. This org is also against the use of AI entirely, so get ready to fall behind in your skillset. They recently launched an AI policy, but it was written by AI. They tout themselves as a national organization, but it's truly a NYC non-profit.
