Vantaggi

- a large and very strong technical team, probably strongest in whole Alberta. Best people I've worked with in my career for sure with a few renaissance developers; - generous monetary compensation and benefits, even comparing to East Coast; - paid vacation starts at 3 weeks and then a week is added every 5 years; - truly family like environment and "family first" approach from C-level management if life happens; - management is quite approachable; - a number of teams to choose and technologies to work on; - secure jobs outside oil and gas sector.

Svantaggi

- complex problems to solve multiplied by large codebase with decades of inheritance; - deadlines can be hard to meet sometimes; - some managers think their way is the only way to get things done. They are "sitting on their chunks of codebase" -- politics and potentially investments into own job security, there are few of those though.

Vantaggi

You get a lot of experience with very diverse systems, and the opportunity to branch out and do many things in the organization if you want to. It has many of the benefits of a large company, like multiple people per project team and discrete business units with defined responsibilities, but much of the technical flexibility of a small one. Individuals are encouraged to drive organizational change. This company actually respects a 40-hour work week.

Svantaggi

This isn't the best paying job in the city, and management isn't always the most friendly to people with nontraditional appearance or identity. It's still a great place anyway.
